Media Coordinator
Sherwin Ovid is a multi-disciplinary artist with a BFA from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Growing up on the island-nation of Trinidad and Tobago, Sherwin experienced life in both urban and rural districts. Sherwin later immigrated with his family to an industrial area of Texas as a young teenager. His diverse life experiences have contributed to his commitment and understanding of issues concerning global inequality along with his interest in promoting sustainability on a global scale. He utilizes film, video, painting and other mediums to assist communities that are marginalized and underserved whenever he has the opportunity. Some relevant past experiences include instructing high school art classes at Lee High School in Baytown Texas, volunteering for urban youth media projects like Cabrini Connections in Chicago, and working at the Hot House center for creative and performing arts. His own conceptual work explores concerns such as: ecological degradation, migration and layered cultural identity. Sherwin also enjoys collecting and sharing music from Africa, the African diaspora and all over the world whenever he can.
